THE BAND'S 100th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION:
As a celebration of the band's 100th anniversary in 1980, we were invited to perform on the steps on the Capital building in Washington DC.
The band wound up taking 2 bus loads of band members and their family and friends to Washington DC in June of 1980. Band members came from as far away as Illinois and Louisiana in order to participate in the event.
The band performed a concert on the steps of the Capital that morning, and then traveled to Arlington, Virginia to perform another concert in the town square later that same day.
Many of the pictures below are from those two events. Further, there are many scanned copies of articles on the DOCUMENTS page regarding this milestone anniversary and event.
Fortunately, there is also a Youtube video made from a cassette (remember those?) recording of the concert on the Capital steps, a link to which can be found on the VIDEOS page, of the Capital concert.
There is also Youtube video made from a cassette recording of a radio interview with some of the band's senior members that was broadcast by a now defunct Circleville, Ohio radio station, about the trip done that summer
Those concrete reminders of that year are priceless.
While some of the band members who participated in that trip are still alive but just no longer playing with the band, many more of our band members and friends from that year have since passed on.
As of 2018, there are only about 5 remaining band members who participated in that trip.
I think I can speak for everyone that participated in those concerts...... we all knew it was a special day for the band as a group as well as for us individually, and those memories shall stay with us forever.
