1924 Band Uniform Pictures:
That's right.....these are pics of a 1924 band uniform coat.
In January 2024, I was given the amazing opportunity to examine a uniform coat of the Adelphi Band that was apparently used in 1924.....Yes, 100 years ago.
In the early 1920's, something happened with the band (the details are sketchy and contradictory) and the common story is that the band was encouraged at that time to "reorganize" (whatever that meant) under the Adelphi Knights of Pythias Lodge.
And so, they became the "Knights of Pythias Community Band, Adelphi, Ohio". A pic is attached listed as being from 1924.
However, that name apparently did not last long as newspaper articles written as early as the next year (1925) still called the band "The Adelphi Band", and I have attached a pic listed to have been taken in 1930, just 6 years after the K of P picture, showing the "Adelphi Band" name on the bass drum head.
So, I was just given the opportunity to closely examine the 1924 band jacket from apparently the "Knights of Pythias Community Band, Adelphi, Ohio. Several pics are attached.
You can see the "KP" on the coat label, and there is even a note handwritten by the wife of one of the members who joined the band in 1924 (Herman Hinton, Trombone, and then Director) stating that it is an "Adelphi K of P Band coat, 1924".
Even without the note there isn't much question to me that the coat I examined matches those from the 1924 pic. I placed these pics in its own section on this page because, frankly, they deserved this recognition.

1954
While the pictures below are labeled as being from 1954 for the Adelphi Centennial, 1954 was actually the year of the Adelphi Sesquicentennial, as evidenced by the history book created specifically for this event.
