"The Musicians... The Music... The Events...”
A biography about a community band from Ohio that has (maybe) been playing music since 1880!
Volume 1
(NOTE: There are several written histories of the towns surrounding Adelphi
that state that the band was actually started as early as 1873!)
This remarkable band was started just 15 years after the Civil War, and has been around since BEFORE basketball, the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower, the Washington Monument, the gunfight at the OK Corral, the first airplane, Buffalo Bill's first Wild West Show, cotton candy, and before many other events and people that we think of as having been around forever!
Its amazing history as a fixture in the Southern Ohio area includes playing for their first Circleville Pumpkin Show in 1925, playing at the Fairfield County Fair since at least 1950, playing at the Hallsville Memorial Day Observance since at least the early 1960's, playing for Memorial Day observances since the very early 1900's, playing for decades at the Clarksburg Field Day, and the band has played at every Ross County Fair (Chillicothe, Ohio) since the first one.
There are over 120 pictures just from these documents alone, in addition to the over 3,000 to be found on the PICS & VIDS pages!
And the list goes on.
You will find the names and details of several hundreds of musicians, Directors, Drum Majors, and Majorettes who have been with the band since it's start. While this is certainly not a complete list of what almost has to be hundreds more musicians who have played in the band over its remarkable 143 year history, it will by far be the most complete list ever assembled.
This biography shares information about the places, the people, the music, and more.
And...best of all...this entire band history will be presented HERE, free of charge.
Why is this labeled "Volume 1"?
Because this kind of project never really ends.
Even if the band were to fold today and there were no new activities to continue to document and scan to be placed in the digital library for others to enjoy, there would always be found more information from previously unknown sources that would benefit from being included in a biography of this type.
But, the decision to move on and draw a completion point to this specific project just had to be made at some point.
But don't worry, I already have enough additional information to start working on a "Volume 2" as soon as "Volume 1" is completed!

December 2023
This biography of The Adelphi Community Band is crawling on its way to completion. It currently stands at @ 1,500 pages, which is too large to be able to present on this web service as a single document.
So, it will have to be presented in Sections (individual files), which will be placed here as they are completed. There really isn't any reason to wait and present them all at one time.
The first Sections should be finished in the next couple months.
