Future Songs for the Band?
Most of us in The Adelphi (Ohio) Community Band are NOT the kind of musicians who like to play the same songs forever. Yes...we all have our favorite marches, serenades, etc., but the world is a beautiful place and it is FILLED with wonderful songs....some of which might actually wind up being our NEXT favorite songs!
So much music...so little time!
So much music...so little time!
Sadly, the band finished 2021 with some changes in its leadership due to health issues of some of the musicians.
So, while the band continues to move forward, the focus of the band's music will continue to be the classic marches and serenades of the late 1800's to the early 1900's, considered by many to be the "Golden Age" of the composers writing these types of songs.
Our desire is to increase the band's list of songs it could present at any performance in a two fold process:
1). We will continue to dive back into the band's extensive library and bring stuff out that even the most senior musicians had not seen for many decades.
2). Thanks to the efforts of many groups across the country whose goal is to preserve and make available Public Domain music for the world, it is now possible to just print on our home printers thousands of great songs from the Internet from our target period for just the price of the paper and toner.
After all, Sousa, Fillmore, King, Alford, Chillicothe's own Will Huff, and many others all wrote many more exceptional marches, serenades, and novelty numbers than just the small handful from each composer that many bands, including the Adelphi Community Band in the past, had gotten into the habit of playing exclusively.
And in that theme, I am constantly looking for new songs for the band to add to our folders. I have already identified some new songs (below) that we will look to practice and be gradually adding to our play list at the rate of a few each year.
However, this list will always be changing as I continue to find new songs that I think both the musicians and the audience will enjoy.
Each song will have some kind of sound file attached....either a link to a YouTube video or to a computer generated sound file I created, so that the musicians can always hear how the songs sound, and they can learn how their individual parts fit into the whole.
Life is good, and it is always better with music!
NOTE:
Much appreciation goes to the people at "Band Music PDF Library" who have spent years and countless hours continuing to find, digitize, and share for FREE to all of us the wonderful marches, serenades, and other songs that have entered Public Domain. I use their library regularly, and it is a joy to find songs I have played in decades past, as well as to continue to discover new treasures.
Also, the goal of this page was to either create computer sound files of the songs so that the musicians would know how they sound, or to find a YouTube video someone playing the songs.
Any computer sound files I created are targeted at the speed that they will be directed. However, it is possible that any YouTube videos found may NOT be at the speed that I will direct them. But at least the musicians can hear how the songs go and how the individual parts fit into the whole.
Creating computer sound files is naturally a time intensive process, and I save that option for any song where I can't find at least a YouTube video of it.

This song is especially fitting, just by the title alone ,since the band has been called the "Old Timers Band" many times in the newspaper articles since 1890.
